Jamie's Story

Personalised. Productive. Relaxed. Fun.

Jamie's drumming career started from the early age of 5, he started to learn the art of the African Djembe Drum, playing in a group called 'Djabot' along with his Dad, this is where his love for rhythm and pulse began.

At the age of 8, Jamie picked up the sticks and started to learn Drum Kit. He progressed from Grade 1 right up to Grade 8. By the age of 16, he was classed as a master of his instrument with a Grade 8 standard - the highest Grade possible.

This is where his love for teaching began. Jamie taught a few friends in secondary school and realised he had a talent for passing on his knowledge in a fun, relaxed and professional manner. Now, at the age of 30, he holds various qualifications including a Level 3 in Music Technology, a Level 4 HNC in Music Production and a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification. Along with this he has completed CPD courses including Safeguarding, Autism awareness and using Positive Behaviour Strategies to inspire children who may have Social, Emotional and Behaviour issues whilst working as a teaching assistant in various schools. Jamie specialises in using drumming to boost confidence, self-esteem and give the feel-good feeling everybody should deserve to have.

Jamie has worked as a PPA Primary Music Teacher and as a TA in a Nurture Group. He has taught children with Autism, Aspergers, ADHD and Global Awareness successfully and productively, whilst still making lessons fun and interesting.

He teaches in three local Secondary Schools (Dene Magna School, The Dean Academy and Newent Community School) and also offers 1:1 Drum Tuition at his studio in Steam Mills on weekday afternoons and evenings.

Jamie has played with various bands over the years - Rock, Funk, Metal, you name it, whilst also playing for Brass Bands, Wind Bands and Jazz Bands too.

Jamie tailors his lessons to suit his students, making sure his teaching is always inspiring, technically focussed and most importantly, enjoyable!
